This COVID-19 community bulletin was put together as a collaborative effort between the HPHA, UHCDC, and the HHL.

Hawai‘i Public Housing Authority

The HPHA is the state’s primary housing agency managing 85 properties spread across five islands with a total of 6,270 housing units. The Hawaii Public Housing Authority is committed to promoting adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination.  HPHA focuses its efforts in developing affordable rental and supportive housing, public housing and the efficient and fair delivery of housing services to the people of Hawai‘i.  HPHA is governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors that represent a cross section of public and private entities who provide guidance concerning policy matters.

University of Hawai‘i Community Design Center

The UHCDC is a teaching practice and outreach initiative led by the School of Architecture that provides a new platform for students, staff, faculty, and partnered professionals to collaborate on interdisciplinary applied research, planning, and design projects that serve the public interest. These projects offer service-learning opportunities for students through academic instruction, internship, and post-graduate employment.

Hawai‘i Housing Lab 

HHL is a design research effort led by Principal Investigators, Karla Sierralta, AIA and Brian Strawn, AIA who direct a variety of projects under the broad agenda of “housing for all” in the Hawaiian archipelago. Karla is an architect and faculty member at the UHM School of Architecture. Brian is a design strategist and architect that leads project teams at the UHCDC. This project was supported by University of Hawai‘i graduate students Kelii Kapali and Christina Holcom.
